For the price point, this is proper level lllA. The only reason(s) I didn’t give it 4 stars is because I’m a little bigger of a guy, so the largest XL vest still covers my sides but there’s a couple inch gap where my sides aren’t armored. The only other thing is I can’t find the expiration date on the plates.
That aside, if you’re a 2XL sized person this vest still fits and gives you side protection. The plate sizes are pretty darn great as well. It’s comfortable, and something I’ll be wearing this fall and winter under my coat without it being obvious (that’s legal in my state; I also have licensing). It’s not loud and obnoxious as you move around as some soft plates and carriers where it sounds like a giant diaper as you move your upper body. This one’s quiet so you don’t draw attention. It’s also proper to wear with a casual fall vest over it and you still don’t notice the armor under it.
The Velcro straps are pretty darn proper. Tight seal. I haven’t had time to put a lot of wear on mine as I wear the guard dog lllA shirt in the summer. My vitals are covered and to be honest, I’d recommend this vest over the lllA shirt because of the side coverage and this vest seems to cover higher up on my chest. All in all, I’m rather happy. I’ve also seen countless tests done on guard dog body armor. All were solid and showed guard dog armor doing exactly what it’s intended to do. Part of me wishes there was some kind of trauma backing, but the other part of me knows then it wouldn’t be nearly as concealed.
If you’re concerned about your safety, you have a job that requires soft armor, you live in a rough part of town and you want to have armor that’s rather easy to conceal I’d highly recommend guard dog’s lllA vest. Especially as we quickly move into the fall and winter season which makes it easier to conceal. The extra side protection was a big deal for me. Though, do make sure that if you’re a bigger person, you might not get complete side coverage. That’s my only real gripe. I’m sure somewhere there’s an expiration date on my plates, I probably haven’t looked hard enough. I’m sure you can ask guard dog via email and they can tell you so I wouldn’t call that a gripe. I do wish they made them in 2XL though. I’ve got extra meat and because I do work out I have a rather large chest and very broad shoulders (that parts genetics, not overweight even though the guts kicked in after my early 30’s).

I am very happy with the quality of my body armor. I’m just very pissed off that my package took over two weeks to receive and some asshole at the post office cut open my package! I finally received my package delivered very late with the package cut wide open and the contents exposed. USPS has gone down the shitter!!!! Guard Dog body armor needs to find a new company to ship their products…
